self hosted blog

My Blog is now Self Hosted!

working from home, blogging, self hosted bloggerI’ve done it! Finally my blog is now a self hosted site! I have been thinking about taking the leap and launching my self-hosted blog space now for some time and I am pleased to say that on 27th April 2016 I finally did it! It wasn’t as complicated as I thought it would be but it was a little bit of a bumpy ride. I can’t thank the guys at TSO hosting enough for all their patience and fixing my issues, questions and rambles.

There are a few reasons why I decided to go self hosted but mostly I just felt like I had finally got all I could from using the free WordPress site for my blog. I loved using WordPress and have done for three years but I’ve recently been fortunate enough to take part in some really fantastic opportunities and I wanted to treat my blog more like my business as it’s what I spend the majority of my time working on. I felt like I wanted to add a bit more ME into the blog and open up the door to a few more opportunities. I really like that I can have a bit more freedom and more space to branch out too! There’s sure to be lots of exciting times ahead for me and my little old blog.working from home, blogging full time

With this new change I thought it was time for a new theme too. I’ve stuck with the pink for my Candyfloss & Dreams name – you’ll be glad to know my hair is also bright pink so I am fully committed to my Candyfloss brand…although the hair dye colour was Carnation Pink but that’s okay. I’m still trying to figure everything out and I know this is going to be a big learning curve for me but I felt like I’ve done so much in the last seven months with my blog and became more active in the community that I can really start working on it a little better.opportunity, working from home, blogging, boss babe

So if you haven’t already, have a little look around and tell me what you think of the new space! I would really love if if you would subscribe and share any of my posts along your social media that you feel are worth shouting about and feel free to follow me on Twitter & Instagram too!

Have you gone self hosted yet? What are your thoughts?

  1. Oh well done you – so exciting! I’ve not gone self-hosted yet as still so new but I am sure it is something to consider when I’ve been in this game a little longer – I love hearing about how people do it. WordPress are so helpful and I hear that they are great on the switch over too! I’ve just followed you on twitter and instagram too! #fortheloveofBLOG

  2. I’m considering moving to wordpress self hosted too. Just trying to weigh it all up. I think I just need to grow some balls and do it! Your page looks great, well done! #kcacols

I know what you mean! I’ve been thinking about it properly for a few weeks now and I just went for it and I’m really happy with how it turned out. Thank you 🙂

  3. Congratulations! The new site is looking great and I’m really pleased to hear it all went reasonably smoothly for me! I started off self hosted as my husband handles all the techie side of things for me and said he didn’t want to go through this further down the line – I’m very grateful as I think I’d find it all really stressful! #KCACOLS

Coffee is good for the soul! I am the more technically minded of the two of us, but I wouldn’t say that’s a bonus for me hahaha still it’s been great! I’m glad I did it, thank you 🙂

  4. Great. Congratulations on becoming self hosted. I have been thinking about it but just not sure if I’ll have enough time to manage it all. Maybe something to consider in the future. #fortheloveofBlog

I’ll admit there are lots of pros and cons to each side of the fence so to speak, it is proving to take up more time, but I’m having more fun with it 🙂

  5. Well done on going self-hosted lovely! It is fab. I now love it and wouldn’t have it any other way 🙂 #KCACOLS

  6. Ooooh well done for taking the plunge – I launched my self hosted blog today – its scary but exciting at the same time right? Will have a nosey through your site! #fortheloveofBlog

  8. Congrats! I started out self hosted because I had read online horror stories of making the move. Looks like you handled it with no problems or tears! #KCACOLS

When I first started blogging I had no idea I was able to have the opportunities I’m fortunate enough to get, so I just didn’t look into it! Six months ago however I started taking it a lot more seriously and that’s what lead to the change! 😀 I’m glad I made the move over. 🙂

😀 Thank you! I think it was just the right move for me, everyone finds a fab way of blogging and it working for them! 😀 Your post on backlinks and 101 blog post ideas are currently on my tabs at the moment, keeping them open for tips to build my DA back up haha! x

  9. well done! the site looks great! im on paid for but thinking of moving to selfhosted org version. will see what happens…even with the paid for version of .com, it is still pretty limiting :/ #KCACOLS

  10. An inspiring post. I’m on my way for a look around!

  11. Congratulations! It’s looking great. I went self-hosted a few months ago and love having more freedom over my site. Thanks so much for linking up with #KCACOLS and I hope you can come back again next Sunday.

  12. This is brilliant, I was really excited to read this – as I am also thinking about doing the same. I think now I’m co-hosting a Linky, it really should be done, as the free WordPress has let me down a couple of times. It sounds like it was pretty straightforward for you, and never be afraid of asking questions. I will check out TSO Host, I’ve heard a couple of other bloggers mention it. I have it on my May Bucket List to investigate self-hosting. Thank you so much for joining us this week at #fortheloveofBLOG, hope you can join the party next week. Claire x

Thank you so much 🙂 yeah they were great on the phone and by email, got back to me quickly, sent step by step instructions, fixed issues it was all done within about 36 hours 🙂 I’m really glad it’s done haha

  13. Oh, how wonderful! Well done, you, for deciding to take the leap! I’m definitely not even close to ready to go self-hosted, but maybe one day! I’m really not skilled at all when it comes to HTML, so I’d like to learn a little more before I’m ready to even consider something like that, haha

I would like the ability to have full and free reign over my blog eventually! Thanks for sharing your experience <3 #KCACOLS

Oh I didn’t do any HTML or anything, I’m still using wordpress and a free theme haha so I wouldn’t worry about that! 🙂 You can if you want but I wouldn’t have a clue what I’m doing haha 🙂

  14. Fab well done you, I have been thinking about and avoiding going self hosted for a while. I am terrified of codes so will leave it yet but you have given me hope!#KCACOLS

    1. Author

I haven’t done any coding at all which is fab! I use wordpress still to do my blogs and so I have a wordpress theme still. One day I’ll have a paid theme but for now I’m still happy to use some freebies haha 🙂

  15. Ooooh your site looks lovely as far as I can see!

I’m also thinking of going self-hosted as I feel a bit limited right now, but also wondering whether I should wait because my blog is still new ans I am still learning to commit to it. I hope I can do it some point in the future!

It would be great to see a follow-up post about the pros, cons & when you think the time is right in a couple of months or so.

    Hope you’re enjoying it! #KCACOLS

    1. Author

I am enjoying it so far! I do think it’s made me love my blog a bit more and have more pride in it and what I post which is great 🙂

  16. Wow, well done you. I am no where near experienced enough yet to have a good grasp on being self hosted. You sound sorted though and know what’s going on with your site. I’m going to keep updated and subscribe in a bit x

  18. Ohhh go you! I’m going self hosted with TSO next month and I’m so stressed about it as I’m moving from blogger and worried I’m going to loose everything haha. Was it fairly straight forward? The site looks great and good luck with all your new blogging opportunities (fingers crossed!) xx #BloggerClubUK
