Shopping in Southampton

Yesterday my boyfriend and I decided to head down to Southampton for the day for some shopping and a little walk down to the docks to look at the cruise ships. We are so excited about our cruise next year and just wanted to have a little look around and see what to expect.

From where we are Southampton is incredibly easy to get to, just an hour on the train with one change so it is a quick and easy journey whether we go as a couple of a family. I was pretty happy about the change over times too as we weren’t waiting in any one place for too long.

Southampton has so much to offer in terms of shopping, especially when comparing it to the town I live in. The retail parks have huge furniture stores, baby & toy shops and plenty of places to eat. There is also a huge John Lewis store and I love walking through big department stores like this because there’s so much to see.

We stopped off at Pret-a-Mange for breakfast before our walk around the docks, in West Quay shopping centre.

Adam had a tasty toast and I stuck with a salmon and avocado salad with a natural yoghurt. We both had a spiced orange hot chocolate which was delicious!

We then walked down towards the docks to take a look at the ships. The sheer size of them was immense but now we have a great idea of where we need to go for our cruise and even decided on a hotel to spend the night at pre-cruise.

I’ve never really read much on the history of Southampton before and as we hadn’t been and I didn’t know there was much history to see but it was really lovely reading about the old castle and seeing the walls on the walk down to the waterfront.

After our walk down to the docks we headed into Lush to get some bath bombs and then over to Boots to get some foundation. Adam got his favourite shower gel Rose Jam. He loves the scent of this shower gel as it’s quite sweet yet floral and he has been looking for another rose scented shower gel or body wash for some time – since he stole my last bottle of Rose Jam where he first came across the gel! I’m really excited about using Honeybee as its one of my favourite bath bombs and we purchased the new Frozen bath bomb for Evie with a plan to tell her it’s from Queen Elsa.

I headed to the bare minerals desk to be colour matched as I love mineral powder and didn’t want a liquid plus being colour matched made it easy to choose exactly the right shade for me. The assistant on the bare minerals store was really friendly, chatty and explained the company and the different types of foundations really well and helped me choose a great match for my skin.

Our trip ended with a meal in TGI Fridays which was so tasty.

We both had a starter of boneless chicken wings with hot sauce (Adam insisted we needed one each – greedy!) and then went on to have a burger each which was really tasty. We upgraded our chips, I went for sweet potato fries – a favourite of mine, and Adam had the Jack Daniels chilli fries which tastes amazing.

We held back a little on dessert and shared the popcorn sundae with a cocktail. I loved the sweet-sharp Red Velvet and Adam has the Mud Slide (I tried that one too, obviously…)

The meal was lovely and the atmosphere was great. Our waiter was fantastic and provided brilliant service. He refilled our drinks before we had even asked (gotta love bottomless refills) and was attentive and polite. We weren’t rushed away from our table when we had paid our bill either although it wasn’t as busy by the time we had finished.

All in all we had a great day together, child free and got some great goodies which I will be reviewing seperately in another post.
