Attempting to give the family home some Hygge has become incredibly popular over the last few years. Hygge is a term used to describe a feeling of cosiness and contentment and Autumn is the perfect season to try and make the home feel as cosy as possible. Of course this is pretty subjective so what does Hygge mean to you in your family home? How do you try and bring in a feeling of warmth and cosiness?

When it comes to flooring I often think of clean wooden or even floorboard effect laminate flooring with big fluffy cosy rugs. I personally think dark effect flooring makes things look more cosy this time of year and it can really make a difference to each and every room. Not to mention for when things get festive if you like a real Christmas tree in the home laminate flooring is much quicker to clear those pine needles up.

When I think of hygge I think of simple colours of browns and creams, maybe some deep plum colours too. Throws, pillows, blankets and scarfs in this colour scheme and around the home bring the cosy in too. I also think things like candles and fairylights give a soft glow around the home. Ultimately I’d love a big wood burning stove in a log cabin, I think that for me is the hygge style to aspire to.
As Hygge isn’t really a thing but more a feeling I would associate certain scents with Hygge too like cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. I think of the slow cooker cooking delicious stews and having hot soups with big slices of crusty bread. I think of cuddling up with my family after a long day of walking through the crunching autumn leaves. I think of early nights and warm baths and my favourite book with a big mug of hot chocolate.

All of these things make me want to hibernate for the winter and really, I think that is what Hygge is supposed to encompass.
