When it comes to removing unwanted hair, people predominantly choose to shave. It is one of the oldest and most convenient methods. Waxing is also an old and popular method that gives better results but is only meant for people who can tolerate a certain amount of pain. In the last half-century hair removal technology has evolved a lot. This evolution was needed as the hair removal methods that were used only provided a short term relief. Shaving cuts the hair at the surface of the skin but the hair grows right back. While waxing and other methods that engage in ripping out the hair will provide relief only for a slightly longer period.
Laser and other long term solutions
Cutting the hair or even ripping it out does not prevent hair growth. The new approach was to damage the hair including the germ cell that’s responsible for the hair growth. Once the damaged hair falls out it doesn’t grow back. There are three methods that can achieve this.
IPL or Intense Pulsed Light does this by heating the hair by focusing intense visible light on it. The heat from this light damages the hair and it falls out. The consistency and effectiveness of IPL are lower than that of the other methods.
The laser uses a monochromatic light that is more focused than the ones used in IPL. It is much more precise and reliable. It works in a similar way to IPL, but it provides better results with fewer sessions.
Electrolysis achieves its objective by damaging the hair through the use of an electric current. This method provides slightly better results than laser. It is not recommended since it takes a much longer time to complete. Electrolysis is also a lot more expensive when compared to laser.
What results does laser provide?
Laser hair removal is a safe and effective procedure. It should only be performed by an expert though. There are many reputed service providers that offer Laser hair removal London and other similar cities. The damaged hair naturally falls out in one or two days after the treatment. Unfortunately, that’s not the end of the treatment process. There are around six sessions of laser hair removal to be set up a few weeks apart. This is done so that hair follicles at different stages of their growth cycle can be targeted. Though this process can’t stop the hair growth permanently. Some of the hair follicles will grow back but they will be a lot thinner than before and barely noticeable.
The effectiveness and the expanding reach of laser hair removal are reasons for its popularity. All the hair removal methods coexist today. What sets apart laser from the traditional methods is that it provides a long term or even a permanent solution to the problem of hair removal. It is often overlooked because of the lack of understanding of the relatively new technology that may seem complicated. People also may not realise that in the long term laser would prove to be more cost-effective than the traditional methods.
