There are many benefits to a home office as there are to a shared work space. I have been working at home since 2015 now and there are absolutely times I wish I had an office of my own at home or could make use of a shared work space. This is because I find it distracting when other people are playing games or the TV is on. It’s hard to work around kids at home too as you need to keep an eye on them and can’t always completely focus on the task at hand which can be really tough.

A home office would be beneficial because I would have my own space that is for working in. It would really help seperate the business side of me and I feel having a room I could go in and me my business self would make a huge difference to my productivity levels. I know I would need some equipment storage such as a desk and shelving units to be able to operate my business. I would want a clean room that helped me focus and that I could shut the door on work at the end of the day.
Another thing I feel would really benefit me is a transitional dining chair to use. I currently sit on a really uncomfortable old chair to use my desktop PC as I find I work harder and better when at the desk rather than on the sofa and using a laptop. However I it’s so uncomfortable this often distracts me from working which is really frustrating.
I have often contemplated going to a coffee shop to work although since the birth of my son that has become a harder task as obviously I need to take care of him. This means working at home is often my only option however I am hoping that one day in the future when he is at nursery or preschool I can take advantage of a new surrounding and working away from the home.

An office space or shared workspace might be beneficial in the future too particularly if I can get a decent ff & e company to ensure all the fittings were done correctly and safely. Using a shared office space would obviously limit the control I had over the design but it would make it a cheaper option that worked for me. I think having an actual office to go to would really help my business feel more professional although I think I could also achieve this at home with the right space and decor.
I think running your own business can incur many expenses and for those just starting out or doing it as a side project working from home is the easier and cheaper option. However as money starts coming in a shared office space or outside space might be really beneficial too. Having somewhere to go for work really helps give you purpose and makes you feel like it’s a proper job rather than a hobby so a shared workspace could make productivity soar.
