Recently, the government announced that it would be lifting some of the restrictions imposed on people over the last few months. Officials will now allow groups of six to meet outdoors for the first time since the middle of March.
But while things are changing, it is clear that the public health authorities aren’t going to advise significant loosening of the reins just yet. The government will probably follow their advice to the letter – as it has done throughout this entire event.
For many people, therefore, living in isolation will continue for some time. Right now, the majority of meetings are between estranged family members in parks and groups of kids meeting up. We’re unlikely to see the standard social forums for adults returning for a while, like pubs and workplaces.
Looking after yourself in relative isolation will, therefore, continue to be one of the most important topics we discuss here for some time. As people, we’re not used to getting by on our own for vast chunks of the year. We need others by our side.
Unfortunately, many of us don’t have a choice other than to live in isolation for the next few weeks. So what can we do to keep ourselves feeling good?
Start A Journal

Journalling can be a big help when you’re by yourself for long stretches of the day. It allows you to have a kind of conversation with yourself.
You don’t have to write about how you feel, which is what people usually use journals for. Instead, you can write something enjoyable or creative. Whatever you do, use it as an opportunity to put something valuable to paper. If you’d had a great idea, write it down.
Curb Your Anxieties
Living alone automatically makes you feel more anxious. You’re estranged from other people, leaving you vulnerable.
Fortunately, there are several ways you can fight back.
One is to arrange a Zoom schedule with the people you know so that you can interact with others during the week.
Another is to adjust what you’re putting in your body. Today, there are all kinds of supplements and foods for curbing anxiety, from CBD oil to walnuts. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different items you can order through the post or online.
Find A Focus

People are usually at their lowest point when their lives lack focus. When you’re in the midst of solving a problem or working towards a goal, you rarely have time to think about how you feel. Instead, you get on with life and, for the most part, enjoy.
Having a focus in isolation is essential, even if you’re on furlough. Pick something you want to pursue to make your life better in years to come and shoot for it. Use your free time now to build a solid base for the future.
Your focus can be anything, from gardening to launching a new business. You just need to pick something that will keep you occupied and productive until it is time to go back to real life.
