Do you remember much about the day you got engaged? I imagine it’s a day you remember whether it’s a big occassion or something sweet and simple. I know this time of year, around Christmas, is quite a popular time to see those engagement annoucements pop up. After the type of year everyone has had I expect we will see more of those announcements in the coming weeks and I have to admit it makes me happy for those that will be getting engaged. A little bit of positive news for them after a year of trials and tribulations in many different ways. Planning the perfect winter proposal doesn’t have to be difficult or stressful and it can be as small or as significant as you like.
Abelini jewellery have a great range of beautiful engagement rings for you to browse to select the perfect ring. The website is really easy to use and filter through to find the perfect shape, size, stone and metal. You can really cater to someone’s individual tastes when shopping with Abelini. The rings come in a sleek ring box perfect for tucking away on the Christmas tree or taking with you on a romantic stroll before planning on popping the question. There are also plenty of choices depending on your budget so there really is something for everyone on this site.

I think everyone has a particular ring they really love the look of. The most common seem to be the classic and elegant diamond engagement rings. I personally like something a little different and I think my ideal ring would be silver or white gold with an amathyst or sapphire stone. I like things a little unique and I like things with a burst of colour. I’m not a fan of yellow golds personally so having a silver or white gold ring would be my ideal choice. These days there are so many beautiful styles that it would be easy to find something to fit the person.
After you’ve selected the perfect ring for your partner it’s all about selecting the moment. That might be a sweet private moment or if you have children you might want to get them involved too. I’ve seen some very cute baby grows with statements like ‘Mummy will you marry my daddy’ or if you’re becoming a blended family I’ve heard friends tell how their partner conspired with their child and asked together. There is always the classic fancy meal and a glass of champagne to ask the question although I have to admit that gives me a bit of fear – I’m not particularly good with all eyes on me! I’ve also seen people make a big deal out of proposing and creating an advent calendar style scavenger hunt each day in December ending with the proposal on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning which is so festive.

I think personally I’d like a more quiet and private engagement. Adam and I have talked about marriage and it’s just never been a priority for us but part of me does wonder how and when he’d propose if he did. I think when you’ve been with someone as long as we have and already have a life and children together it doesn’t really become a big surprise as I imagine, like us, it’s a conversation already been had or semi planned. Adam once said if we went back to Norway on a cruise through the fjords he’d probably plan to do it then and to be honest that fits us pretty well. It’s a place that has many a fond memory for us and those beautiful fjords, crystal clear waters, waterfalls and snowy mountains in the distance provide a beautiful backdrop. Not that it would actually speed up any way of getting married though of course – we’ve been together eight years now and no doubt we’d be in for a long engagement before actually doing anything towards a wedding!

Winter holiday proposals can be really popular and can just make an already lovely time that much more special. Things are a bit different right now but there are still a few holiday destinations available and allowed if you’re planning that perfect winter proposal. Imagine the backdrop – do you want something by water, on the beach, on a snowy mountain…there are lots of wonderful choices for the perfect setting and scenery and, these can still be made pretty private. Also the engagement photos to share with family and friends on social media with a stunning backdrop will make it all the more beautiful I’m sure. You might want to consider looking for beach wedding dresses.

For something small but festive and intimate you could get your partner a Christmas stocking filled with little gifts like chocolate coins or a little bookmark or other items personal to them that you know they love. Pop the wrapped ring at the very bottom of the stocking for a Christmas morning proposal that can be shared between the two of you still in bed and surrounded by wrapping paper.
Was your engagement anything special? Would you like to do anything differently?
