Travel Photography – Part One

I really want to try and expand my knowledge and technique when it comes to photography so I’m looking back through some of my holidays and of the family over the recent years and wanted to share my favourite photos.

Most of these pictures have been taken on an iPhone 4S & 5S so the quality has improved as my phone as but some I’ve had the pleasure of borrowing an SLR camera for. In December I will be upgrading my phone to the iPhone 6S and I am considering buying a camera, namely the Canon G7 X for both vlogging and better quality photos.

I wanted to share some of these pictures with you.

I really do want to experiment more with taking photos and increasing my technical knowledge. I also want to find some good apps for editing photos on my phone to sharpen the focus. Photography has never really been a huge passion for me but I think taking photos is so important. It’s an excellent way to capture a moment, to remember those special times with friends and family and a lovely way to just document life.

I also love blogging and I want to show more pride in the photos I take and give them a little more thought. I’ve even been thinking of setting up a little prop station on my desk for creating stock images. Something I never thought I would do to be honest but thinking about it it makes sense to take a series of photos to use on the blog in the future. I have a feeling that this is just the start of my photography adventure and I hope you enjoy these snapshots with me.

  1. A fab collection of photos. I had an SLR for Christmas, it’s the best present I’ve ever had, it makes so much difference to the quality of your photos. I’m still getting to grips with using it & have so much more to learn.

  2. Wow, you’ve been to so many cool places!! I got a nikon d3300 for my birthday and the quality of the pictures it takes is just amazing, so much better than on my phone. I hope you get your new camera soon and start having fun taking photos 🙂 xx #fortheloveofBLOG

  3. I think those photos are great quality considering they’ve been taken on a phone. I’ve just upgraded to an iPhone 7 plus and really hoping it helps me to take better pictures. Jo x

Thank you so much! I find the ‘plus’ versions a bit too big for my tiny hands haha. I’m happy with going with the 6S as I love the look of it and it’s a better camera (and cheaper than the 7 haha) but I hope you enjoy using yours! 🙂

  4. You have taken some amazing shots already! I need to improve my technique I have been reading a lot online and seeing how other bloggers take shots too for inspiration. Thank you so much for linking up #HMcapturingmoments x

  5. I’ve always loved photography, but it’s only very recently that I’ve really started to take a proper interest in the technical side of it. I think it’s something where you can achieve a big improvement with a very small amount of knowledge, and then just through practising you pick up more and more. I love this collection of photos – you’ve been to some lovely places, I adore Bruges! Thanks so much for joining us again at #SharingtheBlogLove

  6. Great photography. And really good for an iPhone. I’ve heard of courses called iphoneography which i want to look into – taking more quirkier pictures. There’s so much learning to be done, it’ll be great to follow your journey.

  7. I think it makes massive difference in blog posts, when the photos are good. I can see such a difference in mine in the last 8 years. I hope you enjoy your new camera. Mich x

  8. Some lovely pictures and a stockpile is an excellent idea! I’m constantly trying to improve my photography as it’s something I really enjoy.

  9. I think your snaps are great! I take most of my photos with my iphone as well and they usually turn out great. I would be interested if you do find any apps that can edit photos on your phone!! xx p.s. I love the one of Bruges, really lovely xx

Thank you so much! I’ve been mostly using Canva and Filteria to create images and use filters to improve their quality but I think a better camera would be a better idea haha! Thank you, Bruges is a lovely place.

  10. Great photos. I love the one you took on the Jack the Ripper tour. I use an iPhone 6 to take all my photos. I would love a better camera but can’t afford it right now. I use the apps Camera+ and VSCO and they are both great. Camera+ has a stability function that is fabulous. Hugs Lucy xxxx

  11. I have always loved to take a lot of photos, I was the friend that took the camera out on a night out. But since blogging I have started to take more interest in my camera and how to use it properly. I have the canon G7X and love it! These are a lovely collection of photos Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove x

  12. Lovely shots already. I take a lot more now that I have an iPhone with me all the time and definitely more interested since I joined IG! I hope you continue to enjoy it, as you seem to make good shots #marvmondays

  13. I’ve just started vlogging so want a really good crossover camera that will suit both photography & video. Whatever camera I go for I’ll be doing my research and working out how to use it properly to get the most out of it

  14. Blogging ignited a love of photography for me too. I use the fotor app to edit my photos. I’d love to do a proper course and learn how the use my camera settings instead of relying on the auto functions. Thank you for linking up to #ablogginggoodtime

  15. Lovely Kat and well done for upping your knowledge in photography, these pictures are excellent. I particularly like the image of the coloured houses. I’ve heard that the G7X is a great camera too! Thanks for linking up at #fortheloveofBLOG. Claire x

  16. Lovely photos – the definition is amazing with this camera. You’ve also had some lovely days out…looks like a fantastic time! I want to improve my photography too and I think it’s all about the practice, so keep up the great work. Thank you for linking up to #dreamteam x

  17. Lovely pics! I’ve been taking pictures on my iPhone since I’ve started blogging and am really proud of some of the pictures I’ve managed to capture on it. But like you ive wanted to get a bit more serious about my blog photos and was so happy to get an Olympus Pen last month so now I finally can! Hope you get your Canon soon too, it makes such a difference 🙂 Thanks for sharing this on #MarvMondays. Emily
