I am a bit of a sucker when it comes to superhero movies, particularly Marvel films. Guardians of the Galaxy is my favourite of the bunch, mainly for Chris Pratt who makes a pretty awesome Star Lord but also for Drax, who fills the show with pure comedic genius. As you can imagine I was pretty excited about volume two. Evie was having a sleepover at my mums and it just so happened to be out that weekend so we caught an early showing a few Sundays ago. On those child free occassions the cinema is where we like to spend our time.
Anyway, the second film takes place a little after the first film where the guardians are being hired out to protect the galaxy, as one might assume giving the name of the film. After trying to escape the Sovereign they see a tiny man on a spaceship who just happens to rescue them before crashing on another planet. The tiny man follows them and actually turns out to be pretty regular sized, much to Drax delight, and he confesses that he is Peter Quill’s father and has a legacy to tell Peter about.
I loved volume two. Whilst it didn’t have much to offer with the upcoming infinity war, it was well executed and provided a lot more personality to the guardians. So many more classic funny one liners which had the entire screen laughing out loud and it was great to see Baby Groot in action too. Another great sounding soundtrack thanks to mix tape volume two, leading to the name of the sequel.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are my favourite group of heroes for sure and the films really are fantastic. They’re a little more adult than the other Avengers films and have a lot more adult humour but they’re really likeable and the casting was just spot on for them all. You can catch volume one on Netflix or grab it on Amazon.
