I’m sorry Wendy for taking such a long time to get this done but it’s the Christmas holidays and Evie and I are sitting here to do The Christmas Tag together! I was nominated by Naptime Natter to complete The Christmas Tag although I’m sure I shouldn’t have left it so close to Christmas. Let’s get started!
What’s Your Favourite Christmas Movie?
Evie loves The Snowman and I have to say it’s a favourite of mine too as it was something I liked to watch as a little girl. I also really like Arthur Christmas as it’s such a lovely, heartwarming film and it was the first film I took Evie to see in the cinema all those years ago. Adam’s favourite Christmas movie is Home Alone 2. I don’t know why.
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Yes! Adam remembers slipping over on the ice just after we had met having one brandy. He was a little tipsy and stumbled home and fell over! It was very snowy that year and the snow lasted for ages. I think it was snowy the year I found out as I was pregnant as I remember slipping over on the way to my first doctors appointment which was very close to Christmas. Evie’s first White Christmas was when she was four months old and we were travelling down to see my mum. I remember it being really snowy in the Midlands where I was living at the time and then pretty rainy down here!
When I was a child it snowed quite a lot this time of year. My birthday is in December so I remember having a lot of snow making Christmas birthdays even less fun! If you couldn’t tell, from the birthday ruining and the accidents I’m not really a fan of snow.
Where do you usually spend your holiday?
Adam is lucky to be home for two weeks and Evie is off school so it’s lovely that we can spend it all together. Evie goes to her dads on Boxing Day until New Years Day which means we have a week of Christmassy fun with her and then a week to relax together. Our mums both live in the same town as us so we can see them easily. My dad always comes down to see us too which is nice. It’s just a great two weeks for seeing all the family really.
What is your favourite Christmas song?
Mine is Fairytale of New York – thanks mum, Adam’s favourite is Stop the Cavalry and Evie’s favourite is We Three Kings which she has been singing every single day on the way to school…
Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
I don’t anymore but I did when I was younger. We would always be allowed to open one small thing on Christmas Eve. Now the PJ Elf visits and places new PJ’s on Evie’s pillow before bed for her so she has a nice new pair to sleep in.
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Blitzen, Rudolph, Cupid, Comet, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer and probably some more.
What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
We take Evie to KFC on Boxing Day before she goes to her dad’s which is always nice because it’s a fairly long walk and it’s something we’ve done every year together since I met Adam. I love hiding her PJ’s on Christmas Eve too and seeing the delight and excitment light up her face. I also enjoy making a Game Pie for our meal each Christmas Eve but this year I can’t as my oven is broken and the last farmers market of the year didn’t have the game pie mix! So I’m going to buy a pie and cook dinner for us all at my mums. My mum always gets me a new Christmas decoration for our home too so I’m looking forward to seeing what she’s found this year.
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Ours is fake! We are really limited with space in our two bedroom flat so our five foot tree is sat on our dining table. It has done for the last couple of years so it’s fine but I am looking forward to the day where I can have a lovely, beautiful real tree in my much more spacious living room.
What is your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?
Well I love all the food. Mulled Wine is my favourite though this time of year, it just smells of Christmas. I am also partial to a Festive Bakewell. I also make a Christmas hot chocolate mix which Adam really loves – especially if we mix a little salted caramel liquor with it. Evie likes Christmas Haribo Sweets, Christmas Dinner and Marshmallows.
Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?
Now I’m a mum I honestly love giving Evie her gifts. Christmas is just so much better when you have Children. However it’s the only time of year I get gifts with my Birthday being 30th so I do like to have a little treat myself too.
What is the best Christmas present you ever received?
I wrote about this recently and my story was featured on Chilling With Lucas’ Giving Advent. Basically, a few years ago I lived in a hostel with Evie and I was so worried about Christmas. I’d only just met Adam and my pride wasn’t letting me accept anything from him but he did lots of really nice things for me that Christmas. However my best gift was from a previous resident of the hostel I lived in. A woman that used to live there brought dressing gowns for each and every one of us and I could have cried. It was the most thoughtful gift at a really difficult time in my life.
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
I would love to have a Winter sun holiday one year, perhaps a cruise around the Caribbean or Canary Islands.
Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I get so lazy when it comes to wrapping presents. I do love a gift bag.
Most memorable Christmas moment?
21st December 2009 I found out I was pregnant with Evie.
What made you realise the truth about Santa?
My mum snuck in my room to give me my stocking at about 9.30pm. I was quite old I think, perhaps I was nine. I just walked into her room and confronted her. I was so angry about it I told my five year old sister…I’m horrible I know!
What makes the holidays special for you?
Having time off for the three of us makes it so much nicer as we get to do a lot of things together. Adam likes having a break from work and I like spending a lot of time in my PJ’s. Oh and did I say it’s my birthday too! Ha!
Thank you so much for nominating me Wendy I’ve enjoyed this! Feel free to join in with The Christmas Tag if you’d like.
I wish all my readers, friends and family a Very Merry Christmas.
