i’m not religious. easter has always just been about chocolate eggs and the shops being closed on easter sunday. actually, shops were pretty much closed on the friday and monday too when i was younger, much the same as they are this year so that’s a blast from the past i didn’t expect in 2020 but with vastly different reasons. anyway.
i don’t even do easter egg hunts. i don’t stick to giving easter eggs on the sunday. i just try and limit them eating them all in one day. the kids get a lovely selection of easter eggs from family and my mum usually gets them an outfit too. this year we are doing a bit of an easter egg hunt on the sunday because things are weird right now and also maybe felix will find it fun. he’s 18 months though so he will probably just eat any eggs he finds rather than looking for more.
i do know that a lot of people are missing out on time with families this long weekend, or even cancelled trips and holidays. which is really crappy. i totally get it. it sucks. i really hope when this is over you can make up for all the lost time spent with loved ones and trips and nice things to look forward to.
so our plans for easter will be much the same as they have been every weekend for the past month or so now. staying home, and eating a lot of chocolate, but this time, in the shape of eggs. i’m going to bake a cake and we’re going to attempt some sort of nice dinner on sunday. we will make the most of a bit of sunshine and have a walk together as a family. we’ll have a couple of beers or some wine and watch more of american horror story. i’m hopeful that my pre-ordered copy of the final fantasy 7 remake will turn up tomorrow and then my time will be taken up with that too.
i’ll video chat my family. i’ll film some of the easter egg hunt and upload it to facebook so family can see what the kids are up to. if i had a garden i’d probably have some beers and a bbq and an easter egg hunt outside but i don’t so i can’t. maybe i’ll play the sims, create my ideal home and let them celebrate with a bbq.
whatever this weekend is going to do for you, i hope you enjoy the time together. have the easter eggs, eat them all. use leftover chocolate eggs to make rice krispy cakes. play video games. watch films. it’s probably the hobbit or harry potter on itv (it usually is) or something. have a good weekend. cuddle up together. breathe. we’ll get through this.
