Now that summer is here it’s time to break out the paddling pool, dust off the BBQ and dig out the sun cream! Summer is a time when everyone comes together to enjoy the sunshine and those long, cool evenings with a glass (or two) of something cold!
But, just because we’re spending more time outdoors, doesn’t mean we should neglect our homes too much! Now is the time to get all those tricky and irksome little jobs done before autumn creeps up on us again! Read on for some handy home tasks to fit in around all your summer fun.
Your flooring
As we spend so much time indoors during the winter months, our flooring can really take a battering. Muddy footprints, soggy trainers stacked up on the carpet and scratches and dents on our laminate or hardwood floors. If your flooring has seen better days, then why not it sorted before the summer season is over? It’s much easier to tackle tasks like these when the sun is shining. Having new flooring or carpet fitted will also make your home warmer for the winter months you can improve insulation using this and hopefully keep your heating bills down!
Clear your gutters
When was the last time you even had a peek at those gutters? Chances are they’re probably filled with debris from autumn and winter. So now is the time to climb up that ladder (or get someone with a head for heights to) and see what the situation is. Keeping your gutters clear means that you’re less likely to get leaks and clogging. A leaking drainpipe can even cause damp to your property in extreme circumstances!
Get your boiler checked
If we’re lucky enough, most of us won’t use the heating from late April to around mid-September. So, during those months where it’s not being switched on every day, get your boiler serviced and checked by a professional! If there is a problem, then at least you won’t have to worry about the littles ones feeling the cold while it’s sorted. If there are no issues, then have your boiler serviced and cleaned so it’s ready to go when the mercury drops.
Your smoke alarms
Since we’re looking at little maintenance jobs around the house, why not take a moment to check your smoke alarms are working properly? It’ll only take a second. Do it now.
Clean your fridge
It’s a task that so many of us struggle to find the time to do. And most only get round to doing it when someone has spilt milk everywhere! With summer coming you’re going to be filling your fridge with fresh veggies, salads and ice cold juices. So why not give the fridge a really good clean so you know your salad vegetables are safe to eat?
Your cooker hood
Allowing grease to build up in your cooker hood will shorten it’s life so while you’re opting for cool salads instead of heavy cooked meals check it now and change the filter!
